How do you cut polycarbonate sheet?
Polycarbonate cuts cleanly with a fine-tooth circular saw, jigsaw, or even sturdy shears on thin gauges, and it does not chip or crack the way acrylic can. For exact sizes with clean edges, order it cut to size and we will cut it to the millimetre.
Is polycarbonate UV resistant?
Our polycarbonate sheet is UV stabilised for Australian conditions, so it resists yellowing and embrittlement in direct sun. For long-term outdoor glazing, specify the UV-protected grade and install with the protected face outward.
What is the difference between polycarbonate and acrylic?
Polycarbonate is far more impact resistant and slightly more flexible; acrylic is harder, more scratch resistant, cheaper, and clearer over time. Choose polycarbonate where breakage is the risk, and acrylic where optics and budget matter most.
Can polycarbonate be used for roofing?
Yes. Flat solid polycarbonate suits awnings, walkway covers, and pergolas, and twinwall or corrugated profiles suit larger roof areas. We cut flat solid polycarbonate to size for roofing panels, windbreaks, and skylights.
What thicknesses does polycarbonate sheet come in?
We stock solid polycarbonate from 2mm through 12mm, with thicker gauges available for blast and security applications. Clear is standard; tints and light-diffusing grades are also available.
How strong is polycarbonate?
Strong enough to be used for riot shields, machine guards, and security glazing. It absorbs heavy impacts by flexing rather than shattering, and retains useful toughness from freezer temperatures up to about 120 degrees Celsius.
