Making a Statement with Custom House Numbers

House numbers are one of the smallest details on a facade, but they are also one of the first things a visitor, courier or emergency service notices. A clean, laser cut number in the right size and font does more for street appeal than most people expect, and it makes a house genuinely easier to find.

Custom cut plastic numbers give a sharper, more modern result than stock hardware store numbers, with a font, size and colour chosen to match your letterbox, fence or entryway rather than settling for whatever is on the shelf.

Material and Finish Options

Acrylic is the go-to material, available in a wide range of solid colours, from matte black and white through to bold accent colours, all UV stable so the finish will not fade or chalk out in Australian sun.

For a more premium look, acrylic mirror sheet cuts numbers with a genuine gold or silver mirror finish that catches the light and holds its shine far longer outdoors than real brushed metal. Rigid PVC is a lower cost option for a simple flat colour number where budget is the main driver, such as a rental property or short-term signage need.

Sizing and Thickness Guidance

3 mm acrylic is the most common thickness and suits numbers up to around 150 mm tall on a letterbox or beside a front door. For larger statement numbers on a facade, fence or entry wall, 5 mm gives a more substantial, dimensional shadow line when mounted on stand-offs.

Font choice matters as much as thickness. Thin script or serif fonts hold their detail well in laser cutting, but very fine strokes under a few millimetres wide can be fragile in thinner sheet, so we will flag any design issues before cutting.

Installation Tips

Stand-off fixings give a modern, raised appearance with a shadow gap behind the numbers and are the easiest to install with a drill and the spacing template we can supply. For a flush finish, outdoor-rated double sided tape or silicone adhesive works well on a clean, primed surface such as render, tile or metal.

Always check local council numbering visibility requirements for your street before finalising size and placement, particularly for rural or long driveway properties where numbers need to be readable from the road.

Plastic House Numbers FAQ

What material is best for outdoor house numbers?
UV stable acrylic (Perspex) is the standard choice for outdoor house numbers because it will not fade, crack or go brittle in direct sun, and it laser cuts to a clean, sharp edge that holds fine detail in serif or script fonts.
Can I get house numbers in a specific font or my own design?
Yes, use our letters, numbers and stencils calculator to select a font, size and colour, or send us your own artwork and we will laser cut it to match exactly.
What thickness should house numbers be?
3 mm and 5 mm acrylic are the most common thicknesses for house numbers. 3 mm suits smaller numbers under 150 mm tall, while 5 mm gives a more substantial, dimensional look for larger statement numbers on a facade or letterbox.
Do you offer mirror finish or metallic look numbers?
Yes, acrylic mirror sheet gives a polished gold or silver mirror finish house number that stands out against brick, render or timber cladding, and holds its shine far longer than real metal outdoors.
How are the numbers mounted to a wall or letterbox?
Most customers use stand-off fixings for a modern, raised look, or double sided outdoor tape and silicone adhesive for a flush-mounted finish. We can pre-drill fixing holes to your spacing on request.
