Walkway & Platform Panels for Mining

Steel grating and chequer plate corrode, become slippery when wet, and are heavy to replace during shutdowns. HDPE sheet in checker plate profile solves all three. The raised diamond pattern provides slip resistance in wet and dusty conditions, the material will not corrode in any mine-site environment, and panels are light enough for two people to carry and bolt into place without a crane.

HDPE checker plate meets Australian and German (DIN) slip resistance standards and is available in black, signal grey, yellow, and yellow UV. The yellow mining-spec version is the most popular for mining because it provides high-visibility identification of pedestrian zones, complying with site colour-coding requirements for walkways and access areas.

The most common applications are maintenance access walkways around processing equipment, platform surfaces on screening and crushing circuits, ramp surfaces where vehicles and pedestrians share access, and step treads on stairways and ladders. HDPE checker plate is a surface panel bolted onto an existing steel frame, not a structural replacement for the frame itself. The steel carries the load, the HDPE provides the walking surface.

Unlike steel grating, HDPE checker plate provides a solid surface that stops small tools, fasteners, and debris from falling through to the level below: an important safety consideration on multi-level processing plants where dropped objects are a hazard.

HDPE is chemically inert to the acids, alkalis, and process chemicals found on mine sites. Walkways around leach pads, thickener decks, and reagent areas stay intact where steel would corrode through in months. The material does not absorb moisture, so it will not swell or delaminate in wet areas, and it resists biological growth, making it a clean surface around wash-down and decontamination stations.

For areas with heavier foot traffic or where surfaces are regularly submerged (wash-down bays, tailings thickener decks, and pump station floors) UHMWPE sheet with a machined anti-slip surface provides superior wear life compared to HDPE. UHMWPE also has a higher load-bearing capacity for its thickness, making it the better choice where panel spans are wider or pedestrian loads are heavier.

Every panel is CNC routed to your dimensions: rectangular panels, curved sections around pipe penetrations, notched corners for structural steelwork, and bolt holes on your specified pattern. For platform replacement programs we supply panels in installation sequence, labelled by position, so the shutdown crew can work through the set methodically.

Checker plate panels are available in standard sheet sizes (3000 x 2000mm) or cut to any custom dimension in thicknesses from 10mm through 20mm. For large platform replacement projects we will take off quantities from your GA drawing and provide a full panel schedule with volume pricing.
