Why Acrylic Is Replacing Tiles and Glass for Splashbacks
An acrylic splashback delivers a seamless, grout-free surface that is lighter than glass, tougher than tiles, and available in virtually any colour. A single panel of coloured acrylic sheet cut to the exact wall dimensions gives a clean, modern look with no joins, no grout lines to stain, and no risk of cracked or chipped tiles.
Installation is straightforward: panels bond directly to the wall with neutral-cure silicone adhesive, making it a practical DIY job or a quick install for a kitchen fitter. No wet trades, no curing time for grout, and no specialist glass handling equipment.
Colour, Finish, and Visual Effects
Our Perspex Spectrum range offers a broad palette from brilliant whites and soft neutrals through to bold reds, blues, and greens. For metallic or mirrored effects, acrylic mirror sheet gives a bright, reflective splashback that makes a small kitchen feel larger.
Back-painted clear acrylic is another option for achieving exact colour matches: any paint colour can be applied to the back face of a clear acrylic sheet, with the paint protected behind the acrylic surface and visible as a deep, glossy colour from the front.
Kitchen Splashback Considerations
Acrylic splashbacks are suitable behind electric and induction cooktops with a clearance of at least 200mm from any heat source. For gas cooktops, where open flames sit close to the wall, toughened glass remains the recommended material. In all other kitchen zones (behind sinks, along bench runs, and around appliance stations), acrylic performs as well as or better than glass at a lower cost.
The non-porous surface resists grease and food splatter, wiping clean with a damp cloth and mild detergent. Unlike tiled splashbacks, there are no grout lines to absorb grease or develop mould.
Bathroom and Laundry Splashbacks
In bathrooms and laundries, acrylic splashbacks provide a waterproof, mould-resistant surface behind vanities, sinks, and laundry tubs. The seamless surface is far easier to keep clean than tiles in a wet environment, and the colour options allow the splashback to become a design feature rather than just a functional surface.
Frosted or opal acrylic can also be used as a shower wall panel in some configurations, though full wet-area shower panel applications should be discussed with us for material thickness and fixing recommendations.
Ordering Custom Splashback Panels
Every splashback panel is cut to your wall dimensions on our CNC router, with cut-outs for power points, switches, and plumbing penetrations positioned exactly where needed. Provide a dimensioned sketch of your wall with cut-out positions marked and we will quote a panel ready to bond.
For multi-wall splashback jobs, we can produce all panels from a single order with consistent colour matching across every piece.
