Engineering Standards & Fabrication Capabilities

Turned Plastic Components for Engineering and Production Use

CNC lathe machining is the right process when you need cylindrical or rotationally symmetric plastic parts held to tight dimensional tolerances - bushings, spacers, rollers, threaded inserts, flanged sleeves, and wear components that fit directly into assemblies without secondary rework.

Off-the-shelf plastic stock rarely meets the dimensional or material requirements of a working component. Machining from rod gives you exact geometry, correct material grade, and a finish that suits the application - whether that's a smooth bore for a bearing fit or a threaded OD for a hydraulic assembly.

Industries and Applications We Regularly Supply

Perspex Online supplies turned plastic components across a range of industrial sectors where metal replacement, chemical resistance, or non-contaminating materials are required.

Common applications include wear pads and guide bushings in mining equipment, food-grade rollers and spacers in processing lines, agricultural machinery wear parts, and OEM components for hydraulic and automotive assemblies.

CNC Lathe MAchine in Process

Machined Directly from Our Own Rod Stock

Perspex Online stocks engineering plastic rod in Nylon , Acetal , UHMWPE , PTFE , and several other grades, and machines components directly from that stock in-house. This means material traceability is straightforward and there's no dependency on external suppliers for standard grades.

Being backed by P&M Plastics' workshop means the machining side is handled in a professional fabrication environment - not a side operation. Tooling is set up specifically for plastic turning to avoid heat build-up and maintain dimensional stability through a batch run.

Prototype Through to Repeat Production

There is no minimum order quantity on turned components. Single prototypes, small sample batches, and ongoing repeat production runs are all handled through the same quoting process - supply a drawing, sample, or dimension sheet and we'll confirm material, tolerances, and lead time.

For OEM customers or maintenance buyers with regular requirements, we can hold material and schedule repeat runs to keep your stock consistent. Finished parts are inspected before dispatch and shipped Australia-wide.

Why Choose This Service

We supply and machine from our own engineering plastic rod stock, giving us full control over material quality and consistency.
Tight tolerances are held repeatably across batch runs, making us suitable for OEM supply and ongoing production requirements.
Our CNC lathes are dedicated to plastic turning, with tooling and feeds optimised for clean finishes without stress or heat damage.
We machine a broad range of engineering plastics - from Nylon and Acetal to PTFE and UHMWPE - from a single, stocked facility.
Small batch and one-off prototype work is welcome, with no minimum order quantity restrictions on turned components.
Backed by P&M Plastics' professional workshop, every turned part is inspected before dispatch and shipped Australia-wide.

CNC Lathe Machining Services FAQ

What plastics can you machine on a CNC lathe?
We turn nylon, acetal, UHMWPE, HDPE, PTFE, PEEK, PVC, polycarbonate, and acrylic. Material selection depends on the application requirements for wear, temperature, and chemical resistance.
What sizes can you turn?
Our CNC lathes handle diameters from 6mm up to 300mm and lengths up to 600mm. Larger components may be possible with special fixturing.
What tolerances are achievable on turned parts?
Standard turning tolerance is +/- 0.05mm on diameter. Surface finishes down to Ra 0.8 are achievable on most engineering plastics.
Can you produce threaded plastic components?
Yes. Internal and external threading, both single-point and tapped, is a standard operation. We can match metric, UNC, UNF, BSP, and custom thread forms.
Do you supply one-off prototypes or production runs?
Both. We regularly produce one-off prototypes for design validation alongside repeat production batches of hundreds or thousands of parts.
