Engineering Standards & Fabrication Capabilities

Plastic Welding for Industrial Tanks, Vessels, and Assemblies

When plastic components need to be permanently joined into leak-proof structures, plastic welding is the fabrication method of choice. Unlike mechanical fastening or adhesive bonding, welded thermoplastic joints become a continuous part of the base material - critical for tanks, vessels, and process equipment that must hold pressure or contain aggressive chemicals.

Perspex Online fabricates and repairs welded plastic structures for industries where material failure carries serious consequences, including chemical processing, water treatment, mining, and electroplating.

Applications Across Demanding Industries

Plastic welding suits any application where chemical resistance, structural integrity, and long service life are priorities. Common project types include chemical dosing tanks, electroplating baths, process trays, containment bunds, agricultural spray equipment, and water treatment infrastructure.

Industries we regularly supply include:

  • Chemical processing - storage and transfer vessels in polypropylene and PVDF
  • Water treatment - HDPE tanks, sumps, and filtration housings
  • Mining - wear-resistant liners and custom fabricated enclosures
  • Electroplating - acid-resistant polypropylene and PVC tanks
  • Agriculture - chemical-resistant spray and storage equipment

Repair and Modification of Existing Plastic Equipment

Not every job requires a new build. Cracks, joint failures, or damaged fittings in an existing tank or vessel can often be repaired by welding rather than replaced outright. Perspex Online assesses and repairs plastic equipment in materials including HDPE, polypropylene, and PVC, extending service life and reducing downtime costs.

Modification work - adding flanges, relocating outlets, increasing capacity - is handled in the same workshop using the same certified welding processes as new fabrication.

Workshop-Backed Fabrication, Not Trade Assistance

Perspex Online operates as part of P&M Plastics' professional fabrication facility, which means plastic welding jobs are completed with industrial-grade equipment, certified welders, and full quality oversight - not handed off to a subcontractor. This is a working fabrication workshop, capable of handling single-off repairs through to ongoing production of complex welded assemblies.

All structural welding is performed to Australian standards, with pressure testing available for tanks and vessels where specified.

Plastic Welding FAQ

What plastic welding methods do you use?
We use hot gas (nitrogen) welding, extrusion welding, butt fusion welding, and solvent welding depending on the material and application. All welders are trained and tested to DVS standards.
What materials can you weld?
We weld polypropylene, HDPE, PVC, PVDF, and PE. Each material requires matched welding rod and specific temperature and technique settings for full-strength joints.
How strong are plastic welds?
A properly executed weld achieves 80 to 100 percent of the parent material strength. We destructive-test sample welds to verify bend and tensile performance on critical fabrications.
Can you repair existing plastic tanks and equipment?
Yes. We repair cracked tanks, damaged pipe systems, and worn liners on-site or in our workshop. We assess the damage, identify the plastic type, and weld with matched material.
Do you offer weld inspection and testing?
Yes. We offer visual inspection, spark testing for tank liners, and destructive bend testing on sample coupons. Test reports are available on request for quality-critical work.
