Engineering Standards & Fabrication Capabilities

When Precision Edges and Tight Tolerances Actually Matter

Laser cutting is the right process when your parts require clean, finished edges straight off the machine, intricate internal cutouts, or contours that mechanical routing can't reliably hold. For acrylic in particular, a CO2 laser produces flame-polished edges as a direct result of the cut - no sanding or secondary finishing needed.

Where router tolerances can drift on fine lettering or small radii, laser cutting holds ±0.05mm across the sheet. That level of repeatability matters when you're producing display components, architectural model parts, or award blanks that need to fit or stack consistently across a run.

Industries and Applications We Cut For

Perspex Online supplies laser-cut parts to a broad range of industries, from signage fabricators needing precise letter blanks to retail fitout contractors sourcing display components at scale.

Common applications include:

  • Signage panels, push-through lettering, and backlit acrylic faces
  • Point-of-sale displays, shelf risers, and product holders
  • Architectural models and scale components cut from acrylic or MDF
  • Awards, trophies , and recognition plaques in clear or coloured acrylic
  • Jigs, templates, and registration fixtures cut from plywood or MDF

Backed by a Fabrication Workshop, Not a Print Shop

Perspex Online's laser cutting service runs through the P&M Plastics workshop - a professional plastics fabrication facility with over 30 years of trade experience. That means your files are assessed by people who understand material behaviour, sheet tolerances, and how a laser-cut part fits into a broader fabrication workflow.

If your job involves acrylic alongside other processes - bonding, forming, or routing - that work can be handled under the same roof, reducing handling and lead time between stages.

What to Prepare Before You Order

Laser cutting requires a vector file for accurate cutting - DXF, AI, EPS, or DWG formats are all accepted. Raster images or PDFs without embedded vectors will need to be redrawn before your job can be quoted.

When submitting your files, include your material choice (acrylic, MDF, or paper and card are the most common), sheet thickness, and quantity. If you're unsure about material suitability for your application, our team can advise before the job goes to the machine.

Laser Cutting Services FAQ

What materials can you laser cut?
We laser cut acrylic (including Perspex and Plexiglas), MDF, plywood, felt, paper, and select thin plastics up to 25mm thick. Polycarbonate and PVC are not suitable for CO2 laser cutting due to fume hazards.
What is the maximum sheet size for laser cutting?
Our laser beds accept sheets up to 1300mm x 900mm. For larger panels we can CNC route instead, or cut oversize sheets into sections and bond them.
What tolerances can you achieve with laser cutting?
Standard cutting tolerance is +/- 0.1mm on acrylic. Edge quality is flame-polished on cast acrylic, giving a clear, smooth finish straight off the machine.
Can you cut from my DXF or PDF drawings?
Yes. Upload your DXF, DWG, AI, or PDF file with your quote request and our team will confirm feasibility and pricing, usually within 4 business hours.
What is the turnaround time for laser cutting?
Standard turnaround is 3 to 5 business days from order confirmation. Rush jobs can often be accommodated within 24 hours depending on machine availability.
Do you offer laser engraving as well as cutting?
Yes. We offer raster engraving for text, logos, and graphics, as well as vector scoring for fold lines and decorative detail, all on the same machine in a single setup.
