HDPE (High-Density Polyethylene) Polyethylene is a durable and versatile thermoplastic known for its high strength-to-density ratio. It is lightweight, impact-resistant, and resistant to moisture, chemicals, and UV exposure, making it ideal for both indoor and outdoor applications. This material provides exceptional durability while remaining cost-effective.

Natural HDPE Cutting Boards – The Hygienic Choice for Food Prep

Natural HDPE (High-Density Polyethylene) cutting boards are a top choice in commercial kitchens and home cooking alike. Their dense, non-porous surface resists moisture, bacteria, and staining, making them exceptionally hygienic and easy to clean. Unlike wood, HDPE won’t absorb liquids or retain odors, and it's gentle on knife edges to help keep blades sharper for longer. Durable, food-safe, and dishwasher-friendly, HDPE cutting boards offer long-lasting performance and peace of mind for safe food handling.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is HDPE?
HDPE (High Density Polyethylene) is a tough, chemical-resistant thermoplastic commonly used for tanks, liners, cutting boards, safety flooring and industrial components. It offers excellent impact resistance, very low water absorption and good UV stability.
What is HDPE Checker Plate?
HDPE Checker Plate is a Polystone PG100 grade sheet with a raised diamond or checker pattern on one side that provides slip resistance. It is made from PE100 resin with UV stabilisation and meets Australian (AS) and German (DIN) slip resistance standards. It is ideal for walkways, platforms, ramps and safety flooring.
Is HDPE Checker Plate food safe?
Yes. The black Polystone PG100 Checker Plate is food grade and drinking water approved. It is suitable for food processing environments where slip-resistant flooring is required.
What colours are available in checker plate?
HDPE Checker Plate is available in Black, Signal Grey, Yellow and Yellow UV. Standard sheet size is 3000 x 2000mm in thicknesses of 10mm, 12mm, 15mm and 20mm.
Is HDPE suitable for outdoor use?
Yes. UV-stabilised HDPE performs well outdoors without becoming brittle or degrading under normal sun exposure. The checker plate UV grades are specifically designed for long-term outdoor applications.
Can HDPE sheets be cut to size?
Yes. HDPE sheets and checker plate can be cut to exact dimensions using CNC routing, circular saws or jigsaws for accurate results.
Does HDPE absorb water?
No. HDPE has extremely low water absorption (less than 0.01%) and does not swell, rot or degrade when exposed to moisture. This makes it ideal for marine, agricultural and wet environment applications.
Is HDPE chemical resistant?
Yes. HDPE has excellent resistance to most acids, alkalis and chemicals. It is widely used in chemical processing, tank fabrication and water treatment. It is not resistant to strong oxidising agents.
Can HDPE be welded?
Yes. HDPE can be plastic welded using extrusion or hot-air welding methods. Polystone PG100 meets DVS standards for tank fabrication, making it suitable for welded tank and vessel construction.
What is the difference between plain and checker plate HDPE?
Plain HDPE sheet has smooth surfaces on both sides and is used for general fabrication, tank liners and cutting boards. Checker plate HDPE has a raised diamond pattern on one side for slip resistance and is used for safety flooring, walkways and platforms. Both are available in the same thicknesses and offer the same chemical and UV resistance.
Can HDPE be painted or glued?
No. HDPE has a low surface energy and cannot be reliably painted or bonded with adhesives. Mechanical fixing (screws, rivets) or plastic welding is required for joining.
