Custom Marine Tanks for Boats and Vessels

Fitting a tank into a boat almost always means working around an irregular hull shape, structural stringers, and very little wasted space, which is exactly why welded plastic tanks are so widely used in marine fitouts. Rather than forcing a round or rectangular tank into a curved hull cavity, a custom-fabricated tank can be shaped to follow the hull profile and maximise usable capacity.

Marine tanks also need to handle constant vibration, saltwater exposure, and the movement of a vessel underway, all of which a properly welded and baffled plastic tank is well suited to.

Why HDPE and Seaboard Suit Marine Applications

HDPE sheet is the standard material for fresh water, grey water, and holding tanks on boats, being lightweight, corrosion-proof, and unaffected by prolonged contact with fresh or salt water. Seaboard HDPE marine-grade plastic takes this further with additional UV stabilisation, making it the preferred choice for tanks or tank components exposed to direct sun on deck or in an open engine bay.

Polypropylene is sometimes specified for fuel-adjacent components or tanks where its particular chemical resistance profile is a better match than standard HDPE.

Fuel, Water, and Holding Tanks Built to Fit

Fuel tanks require careful attention to fitting compatibility, vent design, and compliance with marine fuel system standards, and we work closely with boat builders and marine fitters to get this right for each vessel. Fresh water and holding tanks have more flexibility in shape and fitting placement, allowing tighter integration into the available hull space.

All marine tanks we build include internal baffling as standard, since an unbaffled tank creates dangerous surge forces as a vessel pitches and rolls, affecting both handling and structural loads on the tank and its mounts.

Fittings and Baffling for Tanks at Sea

Fittings such as deck-fill inlets, vent lines, level senders, and pump outlets are welded in during fabrication, positioned to match your existing plumbing runs and deck hardware.

Send us your hull cavity dimensions or existing tank template, along with the liquid type and required volume, and we will fabricate a tank to fit, baffled and fitted ready for installation.
