Precision Plastic Components for Engineering and Industrial Use

When a metal part corrodes, adds unwanted weight, or fails to meet food-safety or electrical isolation requirements, a machined plastic component is often the practical solution. Engineering plastics can be machined to the same dimensional accuracy as metals while offering superior chemical resistance, lower friction, and compliance with food-grade or medical standards.

Perspex Online produces machined plastic parts for applications where off-the-shelf components don't exist or where a worn part needs an exact replacement. Whether you're sourcing a single prototype or a consistent batch for an OEM assembly line, parts are machined to your drawings or CAD files.

Applications Across Mining, Food Processing, and More

Machined plastic parts are specified across a broad range of industries where specific material properties - wear resistance, low friction, chemical inertness, or hygiene compliance - are non-negotiable.

Common applications include:

  • Mining: wear plates, chute liners, and conveyor components in UHMWPE
  • Food processing: cutting boards, guide rails, and rollers in food-grade HDPE or PTFE
  • Medical and pharmaceutical: precision components requiring chemical resistance and sterilisability
  • Hydraulics and automation: bushings, seals, and slide bearings in acetal or nylon
  • Defence and OEM: custom-engineered parts in PEEK or Torlon for high-load, high-temperature environments

Machined from Solid Engineering Plastic, Not Moulded

All parts are machined from solid stock - not injection moulded - which means there are no tooling costs, no minimum order quantities tied to mould amortisation, and no compromise on material integrity. Materials like polycarbonate , acetal, and UHMWPE retain their full mechanical properties when machined from extruded or cast rod and sheet.

This makes plastic machining cost-effective for short runs, replacement parts, and prototyping, where the economics of moulding simply don't stack up.

Backed by a Professional Plastics Workshop

Perspex Online operates out of P&M Plastics' established fabrication workshop, giving customers access to serious machining capability without the overhead of dealing with a large contract manufacturer. Every part is quality-checked for dimensional accuracy before it leaves the workshop.

Jobs can be submitted via drawing, DXF, DWG, STEP, or detailed specification. If you're replacing an existing part, physical samples or hand sketches with key dimensions are also accepted as a starting point for quoting.

Plastic Machined Parts FAQ

What types of machined plastic parts do you make?
We manufacture bushings, bearings, rollers, wear strips, spacers, gears, pulleys, seals, and custom components for industrial, marine, food processing, and mining applications.
Which plastics are best for machined parts?
Acetal and nylon are the most common for general engineering. UHMWPE for high-wear applications, PTFE for chemical resistance, and PEEK for high-temperature or medical-grade requirements.
Can machined plastic parts replace metal components?
In many cases, yes. Plastic parts offer lower weight, corrosion resistance, self-lubrication, and reduced noise. We can advise on material selection based on load, speed, temperature, and chemical exposure.
Do you work from customer drawings?
Yes. Send us your drawings in DXF, DWG, STEP, IGES, or PDF format. We can also reverse-engineer existing parts if you supply a sample.
What is the minimum order quantity?
There is no minimum. We produce single prototypes through to production runs of thousands. Pricing is quoted per job based on material, complexity, and quantity.
